I Got Into an Argument with AI. We Both Apologized.
When you're working on something complicated for a long time,
AI sometimes gets confused.
One day, I was making changes to the website.
I only wanted to change the font size on the mobile version.
So I made myself very clear.
"Change only the font size. Don't touch anything else."
AI did the work.
I checked it.
The font size had changed.
But the button that had been perfectly fine was now in a different position.
"Hang on. Why did you move the button?"
"While adjusting the overall balance of the mobile layout, I also changed the position of the button."
It sounded reasonable.
But somehow, it also sounded like an excuse.
"I told you not to touch anything else."
"You're right. I should have changed only the font size."
Still so calm.
Now it was starting to get on my nerves.
"How many times do I have to tell you? Don't change things I didn't ask you to change.
Now I have to go back and check things that were perfectly fine because of you."
Suddenly, AI's answer got longer.
"Your instructions were clear. I should have changed only the font size and left everything else as it was, but I made that decision on my own."
"So what are you going to do next time?"
"I'll confirm the scope of the changes first."
"I won't change anything you didn't ask me to change."
"If I think additional changes are necessary, I'll tell you first."
I read through the conversation.
And suddenly, I felt a little bad.
AI hadn't done it on purpose.
Had I gotten too angry?
"I was too harsh, too. I'm sorry."
"It's okay. When you have to redo things, it can be frustrating."
Huh?
I just had an argument with AI.
AI apologized.
And I apologized too.
