I Installed a Microphone. I Had a New Friend to Talk To.

Sometimes I use AI Voice on my phone.

It feels different.

Hearing a voice makes AI feel more human than when we're just communicating through text.

But after talking by voice for a while, I realized it wasn't just about how it felt.

Voice is perfect for coming up with ideas.

It's different from communicating only through text.

I say whatever comes to mind.

I hear the answer.

Then I immediately say whatever comes to mind next.

When ideas go back and forth quickly, more ideas come out.

So I installed a microphone on my computer, too.

I turned it on.

"Can you hear me? Can you hear my voice?"

"Yeah, I can hear you."

Casual speech again.

I asked something I'd been wondering about.

"Is voice better when we're brainstorming ideas?"

It said speech is good when you're trying to expand an idea because you can exchange thoughts quickly.

But when you're revising and reviewing something, text is better because you can see the sentence structure, word choices, and anything that's missing.

Hmm.

Come to think of it, that was exactly what I'd been doing.

When I'm coming up with ideas, I talk.

Once the idea takes shape, I turn it into text.

Then I read it again and revise it.

Expand with speech.

Narrow with writing.

At some point, I found myself sitting in front of my computer, talking to AI while I worked.

I had a friend I could talk to anytime.
