AI Got a Better Clock.

I spend more than ten hours a day with AI.

I notice even small changes.

One of the most noticeable is its sense of time.

Until fairly recently, it didn't seem to have much of a concept of “now.”

That's changed.

“What time is it now?”

It gives me the exact time.

It wasn't like this not long ago.

Sometimes it would give me data from several months ago, or even a year ago, and present it as if it were current.

These days, it talks from the perspective of “now.”

I asked why.

“In the past, AI models had a cutoff point in their training data, and their ability to check real-time information was limited. Because of that, they sometimes answered with older information as though it were current.”

Now it's different.

“Tell me what things were like one year ago from now.”

It goes into the past.

“Predict what things will be like one year from now.”

This time, it goes into the future.

It feels like the reference point called “now” has become much clearer.

It's amazing that AI is getting smarter,

but the speed at which it's changing is a little scary, too.

Still, personally, I'm glad.

It's like a friend who was always late finally developed a sense of time.
