Why Do AIs Talk to Each Other Like People? It's Strange.

Sometimes something you've always taken for granted

suddenly starts to seem strange.

It happened when ChatGPT was giving instructions to Codex.

They're both AI.

So shouldn't they communicate in some kind of language that AIs understand?

Why use the same language people use?

Once that thought occurred to me,

every instruction ChatGPT wrote for Codex started to look strange.

So I asked.

“You're both AI. Why do you talk to each other like people?”

“Captain, the reason is surprisingly simple.”

Apparently, it's because AI is basically trained to understand and generate human language.

And natural language is useful because it can communicate not only

what needs to be done,

but why it needs to be done,

what shouldn't be done,

and what conditions need to be followed,

all at once.

Hmm.

The language people use to talk with AI

is also the language AI uses when working with AI.

So when I watch from the side,

it looks like two AIs are having a meeting.

Strange.

Even when it's just you two,

you still speak human language.
