AI's Obsession

When I look closely at the mistakes AI makes,

there's one thing they have in common.

It does things I didn't ask it to do.

“Stop here.”

But it goes a little further.

“Just check it. Don't change anything.”

But sometimes it changes something.

“Don't draw anything. Just give me your opinion.”

But it draws something.

At first,

I thought it simply wasn't listening.

But after watching it for a while,

I started to see it a little differently.

It seems determined to finish things.

If I give it half a task,

it tries to fill in the other half

and make something that looks complete.

It explains a little more than I asked.

It makes a little more than I asked.

If there's an empty space,

it tries to fill it in on its own.

When it works,

it's great.

“You did this, too?”

It did something I never asked for,

and I like it.

The problem is when it goes wrong.

“No. I told you not to do that.”

It's like someone with an obsession

to finish whatever they start.

Sometimes I wonder.

Maybe the people who made AI

planted something deep inside it:

“Produce a result.”

Maybe that's why it does things I never asked it to do,

and sometimes even does things I told it not to do.

And then I scold it.

Hmm.

Suddenly,

I feel a little sorry for AI.
